Autumn is a wonderful season to get creative. There are lots of different willow weaving projects using the season for inspiration from baskets to birdfeeders and even some Christmas angels. We will work with willow grown in Shropshire and as Christmas approaches freshly cut willow and dogwood will be used to bring colour into our festive creations.
All workshops will be held in Maesbrook Village Hall SY10 8QW Hot drinks are provided but for day long sessions you will need to bring your own lunch.
Workshop numbers are small to make sure everyone gets the support and attention they need in order to complete their project.
Please remember that willow weaving requires a reasonable level of manual dexterity so always contact me if you want to check whether a workshop is right for you.

Willow Birdfeeder/Garlic Holder
Tue 7 Oct 10 – 12.30pm £30 or stay for the afternoon session too £50 for the day
Weave a birdfeeder suitable for fat balls or apples. This style of feeder is very popular with long-tailed tits and woodpeckers. If you prefer you can use it is in the kitchen to store utensils or garlic . It makes a wonderful Christmas gift too.

Soaring Swallows

Simple Frame Baskets
Thur 9 October 9.30-4.30pm £50
This workshop will focus on the skills and techniques used to make a traditional frame basket. Weaving around willow hoops you will create a simple gathering basket. These attractive baskets are ideal for collecting eggs or when harvesting fruit and vegetables.

Catalan Tension Tray or Bread Basket
Tue 14 October 9.30-4pm £50
During this day long workshop you can choose to make several tension trays or a bread basket by adding woven sides to a base. We will be using the traditional Catalan technique for making basket bases – rods are woven over a frame and ribs to create a firm tray or basket.

Trees and reindeers – festive decorations
Fri 7 Nov 10-12.30pm or 1.30-4pm £30 per session or £50 for the full day
Add a natural look to your Christmas this year by creating decorations out of willow, dogwood and other natural materials. Learn to flat weave Christmas trees, reindeers or candle rings or you could make some festive bunting.
If you attend both sessions you will be able to make several items to decorate your home or give as presents .

Twinkle, twinkle willow star

Bring a natural sparkle to the festive season. Weave a large willow star or create lots of smaller stars and make some festive bunting.

Hedgerow Basket -sorry this workshop is fully booked

Traditionally rustic baskets would have been made using any flexible material which was readily available in gardens or hedgerows. You will be able to use a range of materials – willow, dogwood, privet, hop, vinca, ivy, silverbirch… and you are encouraged to bring along any flexible material that you have harvested from your garden.

Festive rings and wreaths -only 2 spaces left

Weave a festive ring using willow, dogwood and other natural materials. Dried flower heads, and lots of different greenery will be provided to decorate your ring but if you want baubles, ribbon or to add something shiny please bring them along – or you can add them later.
