What a summer it has been – endless days of sunshine and now it’s time to embrace the change of the seasons from autumn to winter. I have been inspired by a visit to the 6th World Wicker Festival in Nowy Tomsyl, Poland, at the beginning of September so will be trying to share some of that energy and creativity with you in my workshops. In particular we will use a wide range of natural materials when it comes to weaving our festive decorations – a chance to unleash your creativity.
All workshops will be held in Maesbrook Village Hall SY10 8QW Hot drinks are provided but for day long sessions you will need to bring your own lunch.
Workshop numbers are small to make sure everyone gets the support and attention they need in order to complete their project.
Please remember that willow weaving requires a reasonable level of manual dexterity and strength so always contact me if you want to check whether a workshop is right for you.

Apple Basket
Fri 23 October 9.30-4.30pm £60
This workshop will focus on the skills and techniques used to make a stake and strand basket finishing with a simple handle These attractive baskets are ideal for collecting eggs or when harvesting fruit and vegetables.

Feed the birds – woven willow bird feeders
Thur 29 October 10 – 12.30pm £35 or stay for the afternoon session too £55 for the day

Weave a bird feeder suitable for fat balls or apples. This style of feeder is very popular with long-tailed tits and woodpeckers. If you prefer you can use it is in the kitchen to store utensils or garlic. It makes a wonderful Christmas gift too.
If you stay for the full day In the afternoon you can make another fat ball feeder or choose to weave a different style. At the end of the day you will go home with at least 2 bird feeders ready to help our feathered friends throughout the winter.

Trays, Trivets & Bread Baskets
Thur 19 November 9.30-4pm £60
During this day long workshop you can choose to make several tension trays which make perfect trivets, serving trays or fruit bowls. Or you can make a bread basket by adding woven sides to a base. We will be using the traditional Catalan technique for making basket bases – rods are woven over a frame and ribs to create a firm tray or basket.

Willowy Christmas – festive decorations

Get in the Christmas spirit by unleashing your creativity. Using different coloured willow, dog wood , leaves and other natural materials you can weave an array of festive decorations – large and small trees, stars, reindeers or candle rings or you could make some festive bunting. Not only will you have decorations that will last for years but you will treat yourself to a break from the hurly burly of life.
